At Khamenei’s Funeral, Tehran Mourners Chant ‘Death to Trump’ as Peace Talks Continue

TEHRAN — Hundreds of thousands of black-clad mourners filled central Tehran on Monday to bid farewell to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with many in the crowd chanting for the death of U.S. President Donald Trump even as Iranian and American negotiators work toward a permanent end to the war. Khamenei was killed alongside family members in a February 28 airstrike that opened the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran, and his funeral ceremonies are being choreographed by the theocracy as a show of national resolve.

The flag-draped coffins of the late supreme leader and his relatives were placed on a truck decorated to resemble the ornamental grating of a revered Shiite shrine, drawing huge crowds. Revolutionary Guard Gen. Hasan Hasanzsdeh, who is overseeing the 12-hour journey through the capital to Mehrabad International Airport, described the turnout as a demonstration of Iran’s endurance under war.
