Israel Supreme Court Orders Red Cross Access to Palestinian Prisoners

The court found that authorities failed to provide a legal basis for the policy and ordered its repeal. ACRI, which filed the petition, said the decision meant the more than 9,000 Palestinian security prisoners would now receive Red Cross visits. The ICRC said it was ready to resume its work, stating that private access to detainees is an obligation under international law.

The ruling comes amid mounting alarm over the treatment of Palestinian prisoners. Last week, a United Nations report on conflict-related sexual violence verified in 2025 cited torture, rape, gang rape, forced nudity and unjustified cavity searches by Israeli forces, particularly during detention and interrogation at sites including the Sde Teiman military camp. Rights groups had sought the court’s intervention for nearly two years, with the state requesting 27 extensions before a hearing was finally held last October.
